India – developing or not???

This question is not only in my mind, it’s on everybody’s mind. We are a rapidly developing nation – courtesy, growth of IT which in turn has inured growth into other sectors by improving the lifestyle of the people. Want proof? Check out Sensex rating, growth of rupee versus US dollar, % growth in various industrial sectors etc.

But are we really developing?? Japan was in trash after the II world war bombings… Look at it now, after 60 years its ranked rite among the top in technology and growth. They grew not only in technology, but also in maintaining harmony with the environment, improving the infrastructure which showcases the growth. Look at Singapore, at Malaysia, and others all around us. Does our infrastructure showcase the growth??? Do we maintain harmony?? Examples, tsunami, floods, unseen extreme drought in summer; courtesy, global warming. Reason: Mother Nature is paying back; taming us for not taking care of her.

Who to blame for this negligence?? The Government?? People?? Or the IT tycoons who are running havoc??? It’s a collective responsibility. Everybody gives a thousand reasons for the horrific situation but never act when the time comes. The most saddening part is that people are ready to spend 2000/- for boozing/dating on Weekends, but not even 200/- for the sake of the environment. I am no different, I too think a hundred times before donating to a common welfare cause; whether the money is in safe hands?? Is it really going to b used for the rite cause?? We exploit the growth; blame the government for not laying roads and maintaining infrastructure, but pause for a moment; think; do we deserve or are we eligible to question it?? Do we pay our taxes properly?? Do we maintain cleanliness around us?? What have we done to ask this?? We do nothing, but want everything. Isn’t this the cruelest act of selfishness??

Majority of the greenery around Bangalore (why Bangalore, for 2 reasons, one is that it’s the most developing city, second, because it was famous for its greenery) is being encroached for buildings. I don’t blame them because we need to improve on the infrastructure too. But the deforestation should be complimented by the planting of trees. Is it done?? Nope… but we complain of excessive heat and record breaking scorching temperatures everyday. Now after these many years, some human organizations in Bangalore have joined hands to improve their locality. We have to wait to see their progress. At the least they have realized its necessity. Majority of India is still at stake.

I personally feel that it’s high time that we people, especially the people in the early 20s join hands and do something to promote the greenery around us. It doesn’t require for us to go to Ooty, Shimla r other places. We can create it around us. Nothing is impossible. The problem lies within us. We need to eradicate the “chaltha hai” attitude. People can form small organizations in their locality and plant around 5 to 10 trees per month. That alone will help. But the question is will they??? Will we really develop????

Hope this generation awakens… No offences intended.

Prasan…
